Dhanbad, January 27: Faculty members of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad guided tribal farmers on scientific farming for increasing production today.

In this regard, Dhanbad IIT ISM faculty members, under Dr Rashmi Singh, assistant professor, Department of Management of Studies and Industrial Engineering, today organized a workshop in Gopalpur Panchayat under Jamtara district, around 90 km from here. It gave tips on how to increase farming yield.

90 farmers get farming tips

Over 90 farmers and Krishi Mitras, primarily tribals, participated in the workshop.

Dr Rashmi Singh said that the workshop aimed to take feedback from the farmers regarding the effects of scientific interventions suggested to them during the previous seminar conducted on November 17, 2023.

BAU experts give tips

Tips were given by Prof. B. K. Aggarwal (Birsa Agricultural University Ranchi, expert in Soil Chemistry) and Prof. M. K. Barnwal (Birsa Agricultural University Ranchi, expert in Plant Pathology) on November 17.

“The feedback was taken through a questionnaire from farmers to improve the quality of soil as well as control of diseases, which in turn led to the increase and ultimately helped to ensure their well-being,” said Prof Singh, who is also principal of the project, which began in 2022.

Field visit

Prof Singh said that after the interactive session, they also conducted a field visit to conduct a physical assessment along with Suraj Hembram, Mukhiya of Gopalpur and found the crop growth on the expected lines.
