Jamshedpur, October 13: With the southwest monsoon having withdrawn completely from Jharkhand, the weather outlook for the upcoming Durga Puja festivities appears encouraging, although isolated showers and thunderstorms may remain a short-term concern in parts of the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in north-western Jharkhand and adjoining central areas, including Hazaribagh, on Tuesday. Morning fog or mist is also likely in some areas.
Weather conditions are expected to improve thereafter, with partly cloudy skies forecast for Wednesday, October 14, followed by mainly clear conditions on Thursday, October 15.
Morning fog or mist may persist even as the likelihood of rain gradually decreases, raising hopes of favourable weather for pandal-hopping, cultural programmes and other festive activities.
Monsoon Withdrawal Completed on October 12
The complete withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from Jharkhand on October 12 marks an important seasonal transition. The state is now expected to move gradually towards post-monsoon conditions, characterised by changing wind patterns, misty mornings and comparatively clearer skies later in the day.
According to the IMD’s Ranchi office, Jharkhand received 1,005.7 mm of cumulative rainfall during the monsoon season, against the long-period average of 1,022.9 mm.
This represents a rainfall deficit of just 2 per cent, placing the state’s seasonal rainfall in the normal category.
The withdrawal process began on October 3 and was completed across the remaining parts of Jharkhand on Monday.
The retreat had progressed through north-western and central districts before covering the rest of the state, including East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan and Ranchi.
With the monsoon season officially over, the improving weather outlook offers hope for more comfortable conditions during the Durga Puja celebrations, though isolated rain and morning mist may still affect some areas.
