Patna, Jan 28: With two BJP deputy chief ministers, Nitish is expected to take the oath of office as chief minister for the ninth time on Sunday during the swearing-in event.

At 5 pm, the oath-taking ceremony is slated to occur. The BJP and JD(U) are determined to avert a potential power vacuum in a state renowned for its frequent political shifts.

Samrat Choudhary, Vijay Sinha to take oath as Deputy CM

Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha will be sworn in as Nitish’s deputies, the BJP’s state spokesperson, Sumit Shashank, informed on Sunday, amid rumours that Sushil Modi and Renu Kumari were in the race for deputy chief ministers following the turbulence at the husting.

Later in the day, BJP national president JP Nadda is scheduled to arrive in Bihar. Union Minister Nityanand Rai and MP and former state party president Sanjay Jaiswal will receive him at the airport.

Nitish submits resignation to Governor

After stepping down as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Sunday, Nitish Kumar, the leader of Janata Dal (United), left the Governor’s House along with the MLAs accompanying him.

Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation letter to Governor Rajendra Arlekar, accompanied by letters of support from BJP legislators, concluding the rapidly unfolding political developments earlier in the day.

The Governor accepted his letter of resignation and asked that he carry out his administrative responsibilities as the acting chief minister until the formation of the new government.

Situation in ‘Mahagathbandhan’ not good: Nitish

Earlier, Nitish Kumar stated the situation in the ‘Mahagathbandhan,’ or grand alliance, which was created one and a half years ago, was ‘not good,’ in his initial response to the political unrest following the handover of his resignation letter to the governor.

“I have submitted my resignation to the Governor. The government that was in place now comes to an end. I have let it go”, he stated.

“You all know how I came to this alliance and also how I worked to bring together so many parties. But of late things were not working well. It was not going down well with those in my party as well”, Nitish Kumar stated.

The Bihar Assembly comprises 243 members, with 45 MLAs from JD(U) and 78 from BJP. Additionally, one independent member backs Kumar. The Hindustani Awam Morcha, led by Jitan Ram Manjhi, currently has four MLAs and is an ally of the NDA.

With their combined 114 MLAs, the RJD (79), Congress (19), and Left parties (16) are eight MLAs shy of a majority.
