Ranchi, February 11: The Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) Executive Chairman Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad today asked the DLSAs to strengthen legal services at the pre-arrest, arrest and remand stage.

Addressing the fourth state-level meeting of District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs), he said they focus on providing legal aid at police stations.

“Contact numbers of LADCS and panel lawyers should be displayed at appropriate places in each police station,” he added.

Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava and Justice Arun Kumar also spoke on the occasion.

“The DLSAs should provide legal aid to convicts entitled to premature release. Besides, they should ensure proper counselling to convicts after their premature release,” he added.

Assistance to kin of convicts

He further asked the DLSAs to assist the convicts’ family members and connect them with every government-beneficial scheme.

The Chairman and the Secretary of all 24 DLSAs were present on the occasion.

Law Secretary Nalin Kumar, IG (prisons), Commercial Taxes Tribunal Chairman Manoj Prasad, retired Principal District and Sessions Judge SS Prasad, and Senior Deputy Accountant General Faizan Ahmed participated as resource persons.
