Hazaribag, February 13: Ashish Sinha, a Delhi-based professional, has been elected the new President of Sainik School Tilaiya Old Boys’ Association (SANTOBA), the national alumni body of prestigious Sainik School Tilaiya (SST), for a term of three years.
Sinha defeated Alok Kumar Madhukar
Sinha, a student of the 1979-86 batch at SST, defeated Alok Kumar Madhukar of the 1974-81 batch in a keenly contested election at SANTOBA’s Annual General Meeting in New Delhi on February 11.
“The association has entrusted me with great responsibility. I will strive hard to live up to the expectations of my Alma Mater’s distinguished alumni,” Sinha, a former journalist, said. He was vice president of the outgoing committee, headed by senior Supreme Court advocate Ravi Kishore.

The SANTOBA has been in action since the early 1980s, and it works in synchronisation with the school authorities to meet any needs of the alumni and current students. It has expanded to several chapters and units across India and abroad.
Vijay Kumar Singh, Member-Finance at Delhi Development Authority, was elected the first Vice President. Amritesh Kumar, a Patna-based entrepreneur, was chosen as the second Vice President of the Governing Body or Management Committee.
Santosh Kumar Singh is general secretary
Santosh Kumar Singh was elected the association’s General Secretary, and the alumni chose Anand Kumar as their new Treasurer. Sneh Priya Jaiswal and Binay Kumar were elected joint secretaries. 14 other members of the new management committee were also elected.
The elections were held in the physical mode amid growing demands from the school’s alumni, spread across the world, to move to the online mode the next time.
The SANTOBA had done pioneering work during the COVID pandemic. Its endeavour to create an affordable group health insurance policy for the alumni and their parents became very popular.
Senior association members, including Col John Smith, Maj Gen S P Sinha and R R P Singh, were among the 123 voters who participated in the elections.
