Saryu Roy honoured for advocacy on 1984 Sikh riots in Jharkhand Assembly

Jamshedpur, Feb 15: In an acknowledgement of his efforts to seek justice for the victims of the 1984 Sikh riots, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy was recognised with the prestigious ‘Awaz-e-Sikh Kaum’ honour.

The recognition came during a ceremony organised at his residence in Bistupur under the leadership of Satnam Singh Gambhir, the East India President of the All India Sikh Students Federation.

Gambhir acknowledges Saryu Roy’s support in pursuit of justice

The commendation stems from Roy’s proactive stance in raising the issue of the 1984 Sikh riots in the Jharkhand Assembly.

Gambhir, who has been ardently advocating for justice for the victims, expressed gratitude for Saryu Roy’s support. He stated, “We are confident that Saryu Roy will continue to cooperate in our fight for justice.”

The impetus behind the honour traces back to Roy’s initiative to file a case in the Jharkhand Assembly, addressing the longstanding quest for justice for the families affected by the 1984 Sikh riots.

Saryu Roy’s legislative efforts garner recognition from Sikh community leaders

His commitment to the cause, exemplified by his legislative efforts, resonated strongly with the Sikh community, leading to this acknowledgement.

Among those present at the ceremony were prominent members of the Sikh community, including Inderjit Singh Panesar, Amarjeet Singh, Manjeet Singh Gill, Trilok Singh, Puran Singh, Gurdeep Singh Saini, Inderpal Singh Bhatia and Avtar Singh.

Their presence underscored the collective determination to work towards justice and recognition for the victims of the tragic events of 1984.
