Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: A second-year MBBS student at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, Ratnesh Kumar Mishra (21) from Dibrugarh, Assam, was found hanging in his hostel room on Wednesday, police reported today. Preliminary investigations suggest financial struggles in his family may have led him to take his life.
Before the incident, Mishra sent an audio message to his younger brother, urging their father not to sell the family’s land and advising his brother to stay in Assam while pursuing a medical career. A note found in the room stated that no one was responsible for his death.

Mishra had returned to campus on Tuesday after a 10-day vacation, accompanied by his father. He was scheduled to start his second-year exams on Thursday and had planned a visit to Puri with his father on the day of the incident.
When Mishra failed to respond to calls, his father, staying at a nearby hotel, rushed to the hostel. With the help of students, they broke into the locked room and found him unresponsive. He was declared dead at the hospital’s emergency room.
AIIMS-Bhubaneswar Director Ashutosh Biswas inspected the hostel, and police have registered a case of unnatural death at Khandagiri police station. An investigation is ongoing.
