Kokrajhar (Assam)/Ranchi, March 28: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday launched his party’s election campaign in Assam, addressing a large public rally in support of JMM candidate Frederickson Hasda in the Gossaigaon Assembly constituency of Kokrajhar district.
Addressing party workers and supporters, Soren framed the election as a fight for the rights of tribals and deprived communities, urging people to remain vigilant during the election period.
“Fight for Rights, Not Just Power”
Soren said the election was not merely about a change in power but about ensuring rights reach every household.
Referring to the legacy of tribal resistance, he said, “This is not the time to bow down, but to claim our rights,” and called on people to prioritise education as the most powerful tool for empowerment.
Targets BJP Over Welfare Promises
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP, Soren alleged that the party offers temporary benefits during elections but fails to deliver long-term support.
“They deposit small amounts during elections, but later take much more. They are not givers, but takers,” he said.
Focus on Tea Garden Workers
Highlighting the condition of tea garden workers in Assam, Soren said they play a key role in the country’s economy but are still deprived of their rightful benefits.
“For years, they have received only assurances, not their rights. We stand with you in this struggle,” he said.
Promises Jharkhand-Style Education Model
Soren also spoke about reforms in Jharkhand’s education sector, claiming improved conditions in government schools.
He said that high demand for seats in government schools reflects growing trust in the system and added that a similar model could be implemented in Assam.
Alleges Misuse of Institutions
The Jharkhand CM accused political opponents of misusing constitutional institutions and relying on money power during elections.
He said his focus was on “speaking the truth” and ensuring real empowerment by enabling youth to become professionals such as doctors, engineers, and lawyers.
Soren also highlighted a Jharkhand government initiative where the state bears the cost of higher education for tribal students and said similar measures should be introduced in Assam.
