Prayagraj, March 12: The Allahabad High Court has directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to complete the whitewashing of Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district within a week.
The court also instructed ASI to install lighting on the mosque’s outer portion.
The order was issued by Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal on Wednesday after hearing arguments from both sides.

The court had earlier asked ASI’s counsel to clarify how whitewashing the mosque’s outer walls would cause any prejudice.
SFA Naqvi, representing the masjid committee, argued that ASI had not explicitly stated in its affidavit any objection to whitewashing, adding extra lighting, or installing decorative lights around the disputed structure.
He also presented color photographs of the mosque’s exterior, highlighting the need for whitewashing and maintenance.
