New Delhi, March 1: Following the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur on February 13, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Saturday to assess the security situation in the state.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, was attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other senior officials.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed that public movement on all routes in Manipur should be unrestricted from March 8, 2025. He also emphasized that any attempt to obstruct free movement must be met with strict action.

Shah reaffirmed that the Government of India is fully committed to restoring lasting peace in Manipur and is providing all necessary support to achieve stability in the region.

He also ordered that fencing work along both sides of designated entry points on Manipur’s international border be expedited.
In an effort to combat the drug menace in the state, the Home Minister stressed the need to dismantle the entire drug trade network operating in Manipur.
The meeting was attended by Manipur Governor, the Union Home Secretary, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and top security personnel, including the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, and Army Commander of the Eastern Command. Additionally, the Directors General of the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Assam Rifles, along with Manipur’s Security Advisor, were present.

This review follows the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh on February 9, which came amid prolonged political turmoil and escalating violence that has gripped the state for nearly two years.
The decision to impose central rule came after the state governor submitted a report highlighting ongoing instability.
