Reddy, who secured a landslide victory in the 2019 state elections largely due to his emphasis on obtaining special category status, has previously held numerous meetings with both the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding this matter.

Sources indicate that with the Congress making advances in Andhra Pradesh and the possibility of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) forming an alliance with the BJP, Reddy has hurried to the national capital to make a final attempt to secure his objectives.
“Andhra CM met the prime minister in Parliament complex and discussed pending projects and demands, including special category status to Andhra Pradesh,” the sources stated.
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, which resulted in the creation of Telangana in June 2014, included the special category status as one of its provisions.
Days before Jagan’s travel to the nation’s capital, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu met with Shah and BJP president J P Nadda to discuss a potential alliance with the BJP in Andhra Pradesh for the state’s assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
It is probable that Andhra Pradesh would hold both the state assembly and general elections concurrently prior to May.
