Khunti, January 5: An anti-drug awareness rally was organised in Khunti on Monday under the NALSA Drug-Free India Campaign, aimed at educating the public, especially youth, about the harmful effects of substance abuse.

The rally was conducted under the direction of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) and the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-DLSA Chairman Rishikesh Kumar. It started from the Khunti Civil Court premises and concluded at Bhagat Singh Chowk (Upper Chowk).

Addressing the gathering, Judge Rishikesh Kumar said that the Drug-Free India Campaign is being conducted statewide under NALSA’s directions to combat drug misuse and trafficking. He described the campaign as a collective effort to protect society from the growing menace of narcotics.

Appealing particularly to the youth, he said that drug addiction destroys lives and families, and urged young people to stay away from substance abuse and contribute positively to society and nation-building.

Officials said that similar awareness programmes will be organised for seven days at different locations across the district. In addition, para-legal volunteers also conducted drug-free rallies at block and panchayat levels to spread awareness at the grassroots.
