Ranchi, Feb 3: Anurag Gupta, an IPS officer of the 1990 batch, has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand. A notification in this regard was issued by the Home, Prison, and Disaster Management Department on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, on Sunday night, the government had approved his regular appointment to the post of DGP. His appointment will be for a duration of two years.
His tenure will be for two years, starting from July 26, 2024. Anurag Gupta is currently the acting DGP of Jharkhand. Additionally, he holds the position of DG of CID and is also entrusted with the additional charge of DG of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

In 2022, the government promoted Anurag Gupta to the rank of DG. After the promotion, he served as the DG of Training. On July 26, 2024, the government appointed him as the acting DGP of Jharkhand.
During the Assembly elections, the Election Commission issued an order removing him from the position of acting DGP and appointed Ajay Singh as the DGP. Subsequently, on November 28, the government reinstated Anurag Gupta as the acting DGP of Jharkhand Police.
