Ernakulam, February 12: Former Chief Minister and President of the Archery Association of India (AAI), Arjun Munda, addressed the grand opening ceremony of the 3rd NTPC National Ranking Archery Tournament at Sacred Heart College, Ernakulam, Kerala.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Organising Committee and MLA T.J. Vinod; President of the Kerala Archery Association, Dr Manojan K.K.; Treasurer of the Archery Association of India, Dr Joris Paulose Ummacheril; along with several dignitaries, sports administrators, coaches and athletes from across the country.

Archery Rooted in India’s Ancient Tradition

In his address, Munda said archery is an integral part of India’s ancient sporting heritage. He described the sport as a symbol of focus, patience, discipline and unwavering commitment to one’s goals.

He noted that national-level tournaments provide an important platform for young athletes to refine their skills and prepare for success at national and international competitions.

Boost to Rural Talent and Global Rankings

Munda emphasised that consistent efforts are being made to promote archery across rural India and channel the potential of young talent through sport. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian sport has received renewed encouragement, contributing to India securing second place in the world archery rankings.

He added that competitions held across the country, combined with dedicated coaching and athlete performance, are strengthening India’s presence on the global stage.

Government Commitment to Sports Infrastructure

Highlighting the broader impact of sport, Munda said archery builds not only physical strength but also mental resilience, self-confidence and concentration. He underlined that both the Central and State governments are committed to strengthening sports infrastructure, supporting rural and tribal talent, and providing improved training facilities and resources.

He congratulated the organising committee for successfully hosting the tournament and extended his best wishes to participating athletes.
