New Delhi, Feb 25: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta expelled 12 AAP MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Atishi and Gopal Rai, following disruptions in the House as the Lieutenant Governor (LG) addressed the assembly.
The chaos unfolded on Tuesday, just before the presentation of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports by the newly formed BJP-led government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The ruckus began when AAP legislators interrupted the LG’s speech with slogans, including “Jai Bhim,” prompting their suspension for the day.
Following their expulsion, the suspended MLAs took their protest outside the assembly, holding portraits of Babasaheb Ambedkar and chanting, “Babasaheb ka ye apmaan nahin sahega Hindustan” (India will not tolerate this insult to Babasaheb).
Atishi accused the BJP of disrespecting Ambedkar by allegedly removing his portraits from the chief minister’s office in both the Delhi Secretariat and the assembly.
Meanwhile, the assembly proceeded with its agenda, with the government set to present 14 CAG reports on its second day.
