Ranchi, June 2: BJP state president and Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Babulal Marandi, on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Hemant Soren-led government, accusing it of orchestrating a conspiracy to physically harm him, his family, and close associates.

Addressing a special press conference, Marandi alleged that the state government is “hiring criminals” to carry out attacks against him.

Marandi claimed he had received credible information that certain highly corrupt and criminal-minded officials linked to the state’s top leadership were plotting to target him. “They are enjoying government protection and are involved in coordinated efforts to intimidate me through planned attacks, false cases, character assassination, and even fake sting operations,” he alleged.
He asserted that the government has become increasingly hostile towards him because of his vocal exposure of corruption and scams in the state.

He listed several cases, including the Jharkhand-Chhattisgarh liquor scam, illegal mining and smuggling of sand, stone, land, and coal, massive irregularities in JSSC and JPSC recruitments, and large-scale financial misappropriation in rural schemes. “My persistent efforts to highlight these issues have clearly unsettled those in power,” he said.

“Not the First Threat”
Marandi said this was not the first time such threats had surfaced. He recalled a previous conspiracy to eliminate him through extremist groups in the Shikaripara region. He said the Union government had, at the time, taken the threat seriously and handed over his security to the CRPF.
“Now once again, the government is trying to silence me through fabricated cases and smear campaigns,” he said.

“Hemant Govt Being Run by a Syndicate”
Taking direct aim at Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Marandi said, “The government is no longer being run democratically but by an organized syndicate.” He warned the CM and his close officials that he would not be silenced by threats or intimidation. “I may be a man of few words, but I am not someone who bows to fear,” he asserted.
He also referred to the tragic loss of his son, who was killed by extremists years ago, stating that even then, he had not bowed down or wavered in his resolve. “If I didn’t break then, there’s no chance I will now. Such cowardly conspiracies cannot deter me,” he said.

Call to the People and Media
Marandi urged the people of Jharkhand and the media to remain alert and expose what he termed a deliberate attempt to crush the voice of the opposition. “This is not just my fight. It’s a battle for every citizen who wants to see transparency and accountability in governance,” he said.
He concluded with a strong message: “Jharkhand no longer needs politics of fear and repression—it needs honesty and responsibility. As long as even one voice stands for justice, I will never back down.”
