Babulal Marandi flags discrimination against youth in Jharkhand

Ranchi, January 18: Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government, alleging that young talents in the state are being subjected to injustice based on religion, caste, and vote-bank politics.

Cites Medal-Winning Athlete Anu Kumari’s Case

Marandi cited the case of Anu Kumari, a resident of Baghmara in Dhanbad district, who won a bronze medal in the Pentathlon/Laser Run event in China, bringing recognition to both the country and Jharkhand. He said the state government had made public announcements of providing her with a government job and prize money, but neither has been delivered so far.

“This reflects the government’s apathy towards genuine talent from Jharkhand,” Marandi said.

Allegations of Selective Treatment

The BJP leader alleged that the state government follows discriminatory standards while extending benefits and appointments. He claimed that individuals belonging to certain communities receive preferential treatment, while youths from Adivasi, indigenous, Dalit, poor and backward families are denied their rightful dues.

Marandi further alleged that decisions related to compensation and recognition are influenced by political considerations rather than merit.

Demand for Fair Treatment of Youth

Stating that Jharkhand’s youth deserve equal opportunities, Marandi said discrimination in employment, recognition, and compensation must stop. He demanded that the state government ensure transparent and uniform policies for honouring achievers and supporting young talents.
