Jamui Police received intelligence about unauthorized sand extraction near the Mohali Tand river within the jurisdiction of the Garhi police station. Acting on this information, Ranjan and his team arrived at Chanwar Bridge this morning, commencing a search operation in the vicinity.
While on patrol, a police officer signalled for a sand-laden tractor approaching from the opposite direction to halt. Upon spotting the police team, the driver swiftly accelerated the tractor. The fast-moving vehicle collided with a parked police van nearby, and before the police team could react, the driver fled the scene. The sub-inspector lost his life instantly on the spot and the home guard sustained injuries.
Illegal sand trading is widespread in this region of the state. Following the incident, the police have cordoned off the entire area. The identity of the tractor driver has been established, and the police are actively pursuing him. Jamui SP Shaurya Suman stated, “The matter is being investigated and action will be taken against the guilty.”
The SI who passed away was an inspector from the 2018 batch. Before handing his mortal remains to his family, authorities would give him a formal honour on the police line within the Malaypur police station area of Jamui district.
