Ranchi, July 3: JMM working president Hemant Soren is set to return as chief minister in Jharkhand.

The INDI Alliance MLAs and leaders, at a meeting, today decided to replace Champai Soren with Hemant Soren, who has been granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case related to a land scam in Ranchi.

According to sources, Hemant Soren was once again elected the leader of the legislature party in the meeting of the ruling coalition’s legislature party held on Wednesday at the Chief Minister’s residence on Kanke Road in Ranchi. It was decided to make Champai Soren the chairman of the coordination committee.

Congress state in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir was also present in the meeting along with Chief Minister Champai Soren and Hemant Soren among others.

Hemant Soren had resigned before his arrest on January 31

Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 2024 in the alleged land scam case. Before his arrest, Hemant Soren went to the Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan. After this Champai Soren was elected the leader of the legislature party. Champai Soren took oath along with ministers from Congress and RJD quota. After 5 months, Hemant Soren got bail from the Jharkhand High Court and he was released from jail.

After his release, Hemant Soren met the leaders of different allied parties. Meanwhile, Congress’s biggest leader Sonia Gandhi called and talked to Hemant Soren. After this, a meeting of the INDI Alliance legislature party was suddenly called. After the meeting was called, Chief Minister Champai Soren cancelled all his programmes. Even the programme to be organized to give appointment letters to 1500 teachers at Prabhat Tara Maidan in Dhurva, Ranchi was also postponed.
