Breaking News: Six passengers injured as Howrah-Mumbai Mail derails in Chaibasa

Jamshedpur, July 30: Six passengers were injured as Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed after colliding with a goods train at Barabambo in Chaibasa under Chakradharpur division, about 82 kms away from here early on Tuesday morning.

Unconfirmed reports, however, said that three passengers have died in the accident.

As a result of the accident 18 bogies of the 12810 Mumbai-Howrah Mail were derailed, five of them completely at about 3.45 am minutes before it arrived at the Chakradharpur station as the train was heading towards Mumbai leaving the Tatanagar station at 2.37 am. It had left Howrah at 11.2 pm on Monday.

Senior divisional commercial manager, Chakradharpur, Aditya Chaudhury who is at the accident site said that no one died and that only six passengers were injured.

No death, says Sr DCM

“There has been no death as such in the accident. Only six passengers were injured. We are taking care of those injured and also other passengers, ” said the senior DCM while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

Chaudhury said they are assessing the cause of the accident but prima facie it occurred due to the collision with a goods train.

The mishap took place in the Barabambo-Rajkharsawan section, about seven km away from the Rajkharsawan station.

The railway authority had evacuated all the passengers who remained stranded near the accident site. The movement of train services was affected as the tracks were blocked due to the derailment.

Soon after the train accident emergency response teams were dispatched from Chakradharpur.  A separate medical team from Ranchi has also chipped in.

A helpline desk has been set up at Barabambo. This apart the railway authority has issued helpline numbers for different locations which are as follow: 06587-238072 for Chakradharpur, 0657-2290324 for Tatanagar, 0661-2501072 for Rourkela and 0651-2787115 for Ranchi.
