Canada court grants bail to four Indians held in Hardeep Nijjar murder case

New Delhi, Jan 9: A Canadian court granted bail to four Indian nationals arrested in connection with the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Amandeep Singh were arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in May 2024 face charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy..

The Surrey Provincial Court granted bail ahead of their trial in the British Columbia Supreme Court, with the next hearing set for February 11. A publication ban has been imposed, limiting public access to details on case management and pre-trial motions.

Nijjar, a wanted Khalistani terrorist in India, was killed outside a gurdwara in Canada’s Surrey on June 18, 2023.

Following the murder, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed there was credible evidence implicating the Indian government, a claim India has strongly rejected. The allegations led to diplomatic tensions, with both countries expelling diplomats.

However, Canada has not shared any evidence with India, despite the severity of the accusations. India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, has stated that India is open to investigating any relevant information Canada may have.
