CCL Ranchi badminton: Sambit Kumar, Sanyami Nidhi emerge champions

Ranchi, Nov 17: Sambit Kumar of CRS Barkakana and Sanyami Nidhi of North Karnpura Area emerged as men’s and women’s singles champions respectively in the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) inter-area badminton championship which concluded here at CCL headquarters Ranchi on Thursday evening.

In the men’s singles event final, Ambit Kumar defeated  Nikhil Kumar of his colliery Area while in the women’s singles final Sanyami Nidhi beat Manju Devi of CRS Barkakana in an exciting match.

In the doubles event of the championship, the pair of CRS Barkakana Nikhil and Sambit defeated the pair of Vikash Kumar Gupta and Shashi Kumar in the final to bag the title while in the women’s doubles final match, the pair of Sanyami Nidhi and Manju Devi trounced Malti Kumari and Renuka Sharma of CCL Ranchi headquarters.

In the veteran singles final, Mohan Lal Singh of Piparwar Area beat Avinash Kumar Tiwari of Ranchi headquarters to bag the title. He wore the double crown in the championship by winning the doubles event. Pairing with Sanjay Chatterjee,  Mohan Lal beat Avinash Kumar Tiwari and Subir Das pair in the final.


CCL Headquarter Ranchi team bagged women’s team championship title defeating CRS Barkakana Area team in the final.  Ranchi team comprising Nisha Ranjan, Puja Thakur, Shailja Thakur and Renuka Thakur dominated over the CRS Barkakana team represented by Manju Devi, Malti Kumari, Sugan Kumari and Deepa Shika.

However, the CRS Barkakana men’s team avenged the loss of the women’s team by beating CCL Headquarters Ranchi in the final of the men’s event. CRS Barkakana team comprising Nikhil Kumar, Sambit Kumar, Alok Singh and Suresh Vishwakarma defeated the CCL Headquarters Ranchi team comprising Amit Gwal, Rohit Kumar, Vikash Kumar Gupta, Subir Das and Avinash Kumar Tiwari.

In the final ceremony, the CCL director personnel (DP) Harsh Nath Mishra was the chief guest and he gave away prizes to winners and runners-up. The manager of sports of CCL Addil Hussain was also present on the occasion.

 

Earlier on November 14, Rekha Pandey, head of the welfare and sports department of CCL had inaugurated the championship.

Uma Rani Palit was the tournament referee and national panel umpire Avinash Kumar Tiwari was the match controller.
