Chandigarh, August 3: An official source stated on Saturday that the central government has denied Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann political clearance to travel to Paris to support the Indian Hockey team at the Olympic Games.
Mann, who possesses a diplomatic passport, was planning to visit Paris from August 3 to 9 to attend the Indian hockey team’s quarterfinal match on August 4. He had requested political clearance for the trip.
A source in the state government mentioned that the Centre denied Mann’s request, citing that as a Z-Plus security protectee, it is not feasible to arrange the necessary level of security on such short notice.

The source mentioned that the Chief Minister’s Office received the information about the decision on Friday evening.
Senior political leaders need to obtain political clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs for international travel.
