Chhattisgarh raises assistance for martyrs’ families to ₹50 lakh

Raipur, Sept 16: The Chhattisgarh government has rolled out a series of major welfare measures for soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their families, significantly enhancing financial assistance and other benefits.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, while chairing a meeting of the Rajya Sainik Board (RSB) at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan in Nava Raipur, announced that families of soldiers from the state who lay down their lives in war or military operations will now receive an ex gratia of ₹50 lakh, up from the earlier ₹20 lakh.

The government has also raised the compensation for gallantry award recipients from ₹40 lakh to ₹1 crore, and the motivational grant known as Jangi Inaam for parents of serving soldiers has been quadrupled from ₹5,000 per year to ₹20,000 per year.

Similarly, soldiers who become disabled during war or military operations will now be entitled to ₹30 lakh, replacing the earlier provision of ₹10 lakh.

Alongside financial assistance, new facilities have been extended to serving soldiers, veterans, widows, and dependents, including a stamp duty waiver of up to ₹25 lakh on the purchase of their first house or land.

The meeting also reviewed existing welfare schemes for ex-servicemen and war widows, with members presenting additional suggestions for their improvement. Chief Minister Sai assured that the government would take these proposals into positive consideration.
