Dhanbad, Dec 23: Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Critical Minerals and Mines Simulator at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, marking a step toward promoting advanced mining technology and innovation in India.

The minister arrived in Dhanbad for a two-day visit and held a video conference with national and international experts to discuss the adoption of modern technology, research, and innovation in the mining sector.
Focus on Mining Technology and Research
During his visit to IIT ISM, the union minister interacted with students and faculty members and discussed the development of mining technology, capacity building, and the role of academic institutions in strengthening the mining sector.

Coal Production and Quality Review With CIL
Later in the day, G Kishan Reddy held a review meeting with officials of Coal India Limited (CIL) at Koyla Bhawan, the headquarters of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL). The meeting focused on enhancing coal production, ensuring quality coal supply, and meeting the country’s growing energy requirements.
Visit Planned to Gas-Affected Kenduadih Area
The union minister said that during his two-day visit, he would also visit the gas-affected Kenduadih area under BCCL. Due to the emission of carbon monoxide gas in residential areas since December 3, two women have died, and over 100 residents have fallen ill, according to officials.
Rehabilitation and Safety Concerns
G Kishan Reddy said he would inspect danger-prone locations, meet affected families, and review the rehabilitation arrangements for displaced residents at Belagadia township. Responding to concerns that some residents are unwilling to relocate despite safety risks, the minister said he intends to hold direct discussions with them and will prepare an action plan after understanding their issues.
