New Delhi, April 4: Following the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the Congress announced on Friday that it will soon challenge the bill’s constitutionality in the Supreme Court.

Notably, late on Thursday night, the Rajya Sabha approved and passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which includes several key provisions aimed at enhancing transparency in Waqf Boards. With this, the bill has been passed by Parliament.

Earlier, the Lok Sabha had passed the bill late on Wednesday night at around 2 AM. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on social media platform X, stating that the Congress would soon challenge the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Supreme Court.

He also asserted that the party would continue to oppose all actions by the Modi government that it views as attacks on the principles, provisions, and practices enshrined in the Indian Constitution.

“The INC will very soon be challenging in the Supreme Court the constitutionality of the Wakf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. We are confident and will continue to resist all assaults of the Modi Govt on the principles, provisions, and practices that are contained in the Constitution of India,” Jairam Ramesh posted on X.
