CRPF personnel arrested by NIA for leaking sensitive info to Pakistan

New Delhi, May 26: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on charges of espionage.

The accused, identified as Moti Ram Jat, was apprehended in Delhi for allegedly passing confidential information to Pakistani intelligence operatives since 2023.

He had been under the radar of senior CRPF officers due to suspicious social media activity while he was posted in Kashmir.

According to officials, Moti Ram had been in active contact with Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) and was involved in sharing classified details related to national security.

Following internal questioning by CRPF officials and central intelligence agencies, Moti Ram Jat was handed over to the NIA. The agency arrested him from Delhi after registering a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

The NIA presented Moti Ram Jat before a special court at Patiala House, which remanded him to agency custody until June 6.

Investigators also revealed that he received money through intermediaries in exchange for the leaked information.

Soon after his arrest, the CRPF dismissed him from service based on the severity of the charges.

Interrogation is underway to uncover the full extent of the espionage network and others potentially involved.
