Dhanbad, May 26: Veteran plastic surgeon Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh and renowned ophthalmologist Dr. BP Kashyap from Jharkhand have been elected to the Indian Medical Association’s (IMA) national Standing Committee for the Legal Cell for the 2025-26 tenure.

National-Level Selection and Committee Details
IMA National Vice-President Dr. D. Tiwari from Delhi announced that the national president, Dilip Bhanushali, has reconstituted the committee. Both Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh and Dr. BP Kashyap from Ranchi were selected among the 11 members of the elite Standing Committee for the Legal Cell. Dr. Tiwari added that only doctors from eight states were chosen for this prestigious committee.

Currently, Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh serves as the coordinator of the IMA Jharkhand chapter, while Dr. BP Kashyap holds the position of treasurer of the state association.

Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh’s Second Term at National Level
This marks Dr. Ajoy Kumar Singh’s second term in the IMA national body since the creation of Jharkhand. He was the first doctor from the state to be selected as IMA Vice-President (Headquarters) in 2005. Over the years, Dr. Singh has contributed extensively to various medical committees at the national level.
Speaking on his new role, Dr. Singh said, “Although the national body has not yet outlined the blueprint of work, I will offer expert suggestions on legal matters whenever assigned.”

Dr. BP Kashyap’s Contribution
Dr. BP Kashyap has served as the state IMA treasurer for over a decade. He is highly respected for his dedication and for supporting the state organization often at his own expense.
Dr. Kashyap has also served as secretary of the Ranchi IMA chapter for eight terms, a period regarded by senior members as a golden era for the district’s IMA.

“I will strive to fulfill this new responsibility and work towards making Jharkhand’s IMA one of the top bodies in the country,” said Dr. Kashyap while talking from Bangkok, Thailand.
Members of the IMA across Jharkhand have congratulated both senior office bearers on their significant achievement, marking a proud moment for the state’s medical community.
