Dhanbad, August 20: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aditya Ranjan has officially assumed the role of president of the Dhanbad District Badminton Association (DDBA). A delegation of DDBA, led by senior vice-president Satish Kumar, met him on Tuesday evening and felicitated him for accepting the position.

The post had been lying vacant for the past four months since May 2025, following the transfer of former DC Madhwi Mishra. By tradition, the post of DDBA president is designated for the deputy commissioner. Although Aditya Ranjan took charge as DC in May, he accepted the responsibility of the sports body only on August 19.

Delegation Welcomes the Decision

The delegation, which included senior vice-president Satish Kumar, secretary Samrat Choudhary, treasurer Dipankar Banerjee, and state coach Sandeep Kumar, expressed optimism about the future of badminton under his leadership.

“He (Aditya Ranjan) has a keen interest in sports and a positive approach towards developing infrastructure and promoting players. In just three months of his tenure, different games in Dhanbad have witnessed significant progress. We are hopeful that under his guidance, badminton players of the district will receive advanced facilities and training to excel at state and national levels,” the delegation said.

A senior district administration official also highlighted Ranjan’s strong interest in sports, particularly badminton. Shortly after assuming charge as DC, he inspected the indoor stadium and directed officials to carry out renovations to meet players’ requirements.

Vacancy in Patron-in-Chief Post

Meanwhile, the post of association’s patron-in-chief has remained vacant since September 2024, after the death of BSP Roy, the former president of the Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA).
