Sangareddy, July 1: The tragic explosion at Sigachi Industries’ pharmaceutical facility in Pashamylaram has now claimed 35 lives, according to police officials. Sangareddy District SP Paritosh Pankaj confirmed the updated toll on Tuesday, stating that the final phase of the rescue operation is still underway.

As debris continues to be cleared, authorities have recovered 31 bodies from the wreckage, while three more victims succumbed to injuries in hospitals. One additional fatality was reported Tuesday morning.

Several of the deceased remain unidentified, prompting officials to begin DNA profiling to ascertain their identities. A revenue official said that only nine bodies have been identified so far, with most of the deceased believed to be migrant workers from Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar.

The explosion, suspected to have resulted from a chemical reaction, occurred on Monday at the facility owned by Sigachi Industries Limited—a company involved in the manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), intermediates, and excipients.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accompanied by cabinet ministers, visited the site to assess the damage and review relief efforts.

Hospitals in the vicinity received dozens of casualties following the blast. Pranaam Hospitals in Miyapur treated 21 patients—two of whom were declared dead on arrival, while another passed away Tuesday morning.

Dhruva Hospitals in Patancheru admitted 11 patients; two were later referred to superspeciality centres. Of the remaining nine, five are currently on ventilator support, with burn injuries ranging from 10 to 80 percent, according to hospital officials.
