Jamshedpur, July 1: A significant spell of rainfall is expected over various parts of Jharkhand in the coming days, as a low-pressure area formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of West Bengal and Bangladesh gradually moves inland.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the system lies over coastal Gangetic West Bengal and its neighbourhood.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level, and is expected to move slowly west-northwestwards, impacting North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand over the next two days.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Sri Ganganagar through Delhi, Fatehgarh, Sidhi, and Jamshedpur, before linking up with the centre of the low-pressure system and continuing towards the northeast Bay of Bengal.

Additionally, an east-west trough is active from southwest Uttar Pradesh to the cyclonic circulation over coastal West Bengal, traversing southeast Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal at levels between 0.9 to 3.1 Km above sea level.

Rainfall Forecast (July 1 to 5)

01 July: Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over western Jharkhand. Thunderstorms with lightning may occur across isolated areas in the state.

02 July: Isolated heavy rainfall expected over north-central Jharkhand, with continued chances of thunderstorms/lightning statewide.

03 July: Heavy rainfall forecast for north-central and adjoining regions of Jharkhand. Thunderstorm activity may persist.

04 July: Rainfall may intensify in north-central and adjoining eastern parts of the state, along with thunderstorm and lightning warnings.

05 July: Heavy showers are likely at isolated places over northeastern Jharkhand.

Residents are advised to remain alert, especially in vulnerable and low-lying areas.

Lightning and strong winds may accompany the storms, posing additional risks.

The evolving system is expected to bring a marked improvement in monsoon activity across the state.
