New Delhi, March 13: The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, has given his approval for the expansion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by adding 300,000 new cadets.

According to the defence ministry, the expansion is anticipated to meet the growing demand for the NCC from educational institutions around the nation.

The ministry released a statement saying, “From just 20,000 cadets in 1948, the NCC will now have a sanctioned strength of 20 lakh cadets on its roles, making it the largest uniformed youth organization of the world.”

Two additional NCC units and the construction of four new Group Headquarters are included in the expansion plan, according to the statement.

Expansion of NCC to meet youth aspirations and foster future leaders

“With NCC being offered as an elective subject as per the National Education Policy 2020, the expansion will be a step towards meeting the aspirations of the youth towards playing a pivotal role as future leaders of the nation,” the ministry stated.

“The far reaching impact of this expansion will lead to proportionate distribution of vacancies across all States and Union Territories and would reduce the waiting list of institutions aspiring for the NCC,” added the ministry.

An essential aspect of the expansion strategy includes the suggestion to hire retired servicemen as NCC instructors to utilize their expertise and extensive experience effectively.

It stated that the expansion demonstrates a commitment to developing future leaders who are beacons of service, discipline, and leadership.
