New Delhi, July 12: The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to grant bail to Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who faces charges of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal.

Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta denied Kumar’s bail application, concluding that there was no justification for granting him relief.

The judge while denying bail also expressed concerns that Kumar might influence the witnesses.

Kumar applied for bail, contending that the allegations were false and that his custody was no longer needed as the investigation had concluded.

Kumar was arrested on May 18

Kumar is accused of physically assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on May 13 at the official residence of Delhi’s Chief Minister.

An FIR was filed against Kumar on May 16 under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those pertaining to criminal intimidation, assault on a woman with the intent to disrobe, and attempted culpable homicide.

He was arrested on May 18, and on that same day, a magisterial court placed him in police custody for five days, stating that his anticipatory bail plea was no longer valid due to his arrest.

He was sent to four days of judicial custody on May 24, and subsequently, he was placed in police custody for another three days.

Maliwal has accused Kumar of assaulting her at the official residence of the Chief Minister on May 13.

Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on July 6 extended Bibhav Kumar’s judicial custody till July 16.
