Jamshedpur, July 12: Notorious criminal Kartik Munda died after he fell down from a double-storeyed building in Sonari at the early hours on Friday.

Wanted in more than two dozen cases by the Jamshedpur and adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, Kartik (40) was fatally injured while evading a chasing police team at Sangam Vihar colony in Sonari.

A police team from Adityapur which had cornered the criminal in a triple-storeyed building for his arrest rushed him to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.

Was an expert in bomb-making

A resident of the Sitaramdera thana area, Kartik Munda had become a challenge for the police department since the past 15 years.

Kartik Munda who had gained expertise in bomb-making and a knack for using bombs while committing crimes had worked for Paramjeet Singh (already dead) gang and also for the gangster Akhilesh Singh in perpetuating the crimes.

Presently Kartik had reportedly locked horns with another notorious criminal Vicky Nandi gang operating in Adityapur and Gamharia in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

Fell down while evading police chase

According to sources, a team of Adityapur police which had information about Kartik Munda’s whereabouts in an apartment in Sangam Vihar had surrounded the place. On getting to know about the imminent police raid, Kartik had come out of his hideout and jumped from the second floor to the first floor of a residential building there at Sangam Vihar.

Soon after the criminal had jumped down from the first floor to escape arrest, he fell down, causing him to sustain a grievous head injury. Then only the police had rescued him and rushed him to Tata Main Hospital.
