New Delhi, May 31: Lalu Prasad Yadav has faced another setback as the Delhi High Court dismissed his petition seeking the quashing of the CBI case against him in the land-for-jobs scam.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued on behalf of Lalu Yadav, requesting the court to cancel the case filed by the CBI. However, the bench of Justice Ravinder Dudeja rejected the plea after hearing arguments from both sides and clarified that there will be no stay on the proceedings in the trial court.

Kapil Sibal informed the High Court that the CBI’s special judge at Rouse Avenue Court is scheduled to begin hearings on framing charges against Lalu Prasad and others from June 2.

He also pointed out that no FIR had been registered in the matter between 2004 and 2009. Sibal further argued that the CBI began its investigation without obtaining the mandatory legal sanction, which he said was a violation of the Supreme Court’s guidelines.
Despite these arguments, the court did not accept the plea to quash the case. It ruled that the trial against Lalu Yadav will continue, and the CBI is free to proceed with its investigation.

Lalu acquired land in exchange for jobs during his tenure as Railway Minister
The CBI alleges that during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009, a land-for-jobs scam took place. During this period, Lalu Yadav allegedly secretly appointed 12 individuals from Patna to Group D positions in exchange for land.

The CBI claims that plots were registered in the names of Lalu Yadav’s wife, Rabri Devi, and his daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, and that these lands were purchased at nominal prices paid in cash.

Furthermore, the positions in the Railways were filled without any advertisement or notification to the Central Railway. The jobs were given within three days of receiving the applications.
