New Delhi, March 22: Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta has appointed 14 MLAs to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the 2025-26 term, a move seen as bolstering the BJP’s efforts to secure the mayoral position in the upcoming elections.
Of the nominated MLAs, 11 belong to the BJP, while three represent AAP. These nominations play a crucial role in the mayoral and deputy mayoral elections scheduled for April, as the appointed legislators hold voting rights in the process.
The BJP, which recently achieved a decisive victory in the assembly elections, is aiming to establish a “triple-engine government” by securing control of the MCD leadership.
