Ranchi, Dec 24: Ranchi and the rest of Jharkhand are currently shrouded in a thick layer of fog, significantly reducing visibility and affecting flight operations.

Due to extremely low visibility on the runway, several flights from Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi were cancelled today, while some others departed several hours later than scheduled.

A total of seven flights were cancelled due to the fog, including 6E 7089/7014, 6E 7674/7235, and 6E 7561/7562 (Kolkata–Ranchi–Kolkata), 6E 6287/576 (Delhi–Ranchi–Delhi), IX 1239/1248 (Bengaluru–Ranchi–Bengaluru), IX 1046/1047 (Delhi–Ranchi–Delhi), and IX 1237/1238 (Mumbai–Ranchi–Mumbai).

According to airport officials, the Kolkata-Ranchi flight 7561, scheduled to arrive at 7:10 AM, landed at 9:40 AM instead.
The Pune-Ranchi flight 6E 6484, originally scheduled for 8:25 AM, landed at 10:25 AM.
Similarly, the Ranchi-Bengaluru flight 6E 6799, scheduled to depart at 8:55 AM, took off at 10:55 AM.
Additionally, the Hyderabad-Ranchi flight 6E 421 landed at 10:45 AM instead of 9:00 AM, while the Ranchi-Hyderabad flight 6E 398 departed at 11:15 AM instead of 9:30 AM.

The cancellations and delays caused considerable inconvenience to passengers, many of whom were seen waiting at the airport for several hours.
Airport authorities explained that visibility in the morning had dropped below standard levels, making safe landing and take-off operations impossible for the aircraft.
