Dhanbad, August 13: The entry of advocate Jaya Kumar has added a fresh dimension to the contest for the general secretary post in the upcoming Dhanbad Bar Association elections.
A former vice-president and joint secretary of the association, she is the only woman among the 10 contenders for the key post.
Jaya Kumar, wife of retired SNMMCH superintendent Dr. Anil Kumar, served as joint secretary from 2009 to 2011 and as senior vice-president from 2011 to 2013.

Nominations and Key Election Dates
For the 2025–2027 term, a total of 103 lawyers have filed nominations for 16 posts in the association. The two-day scrutiny of nomination papers is set to conclude today, while the last date for withdrawal is August 14. Polling will be held on August 30, followed by counting on August 31.
High-Profile Battles for Top Posts
In the race for president, five candidates are in contention: incumbent Amrendra Kumar Sahay, who is seeking a third consecutive term, former presidents Radheysham Goswamy and Kansari Mandal, along with advocates Suresh Prasad Yadav and Hriday Narayan Singh.
For the general secretary’s post, nine others are contesting alongside Jaya Kumar, including the current post-holder Jitendra Kumar, Videsh Daa, Pravin Krishna, Ajay Narayan, Wasim Ahmed Azad, Meghnath Rawani, Deep Narayan, and Ranjit Kumar Saw.

Vice-President and Governing Council Contests
The vice-president post has attracted nominations from Dhaneswar Mahto, P.K. Bhattacharya, Rajdeo Yadav, Arun Kumar, Subodh Kumar Kesri, and Jayant Chakraborty.
Meanwhile, former vice-president of the Jharkhand Olympic Association, Zubair Alam, is contesting for a seat in the Governing Council.
