Dhanbad, April 9: In a major step towards tackling malnutrition, Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Madhvi Mishra flagged off the ‘Poshan Rath’ on Wednesday from the new Collectorate building. The initiative aims to make the district free from malnutrition among women and children.

Speaking at the launch, DC Mishra said the Poshan Rath will tour remote areas of the district during the month-long Rashtriya Poshan Maah (April 8–22). “The focus is on the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, which are crucial in preventing malnutrition,” she noted.
The Rath will spread awareness at the community level about managing malnutrition, preventing childhood obesity, and promoting a nutritious diet. Villagers will be encouraged to include green vegetables, fruits, milk, eggs, and other healthy foods in their daily meals.

DC Mishra added that the Social Welfare Department has organised an extensive awareness campaign across the district to support the goal of a ‘malnutrition-free Dhanbad.’
As part of the launch event, Anganwadi Sevikas, Sahayikas, and supervisors from various blocks showcased nutrition stalls. The DC inspected the displays and offered suggestions for making them more appealing and informative.
Also present at the event were ADM (Law & Order) Piyush Sinha, DRDA Director Rajiv Ranjan, District Social Welfare Officer Anita Kujur, Assistant Director of Social Security Niyaz Ahmad, and several Block Development Officers.
