Dhanbad, Dec 14: Outsourcing sanitation employees deployed at the Hospital of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, went on an indefinite strike in protest against the non-payment of increased salaries by the agency.

Over 150 sanitation employees of the Commando Security Agency, Hazaribagh, are deployed at SNMMCH. All staff stopped their work early this morning and held a massive demonstration at the hospital gate.

After the strike, different wards and washrooms began stinking in the afternoon.

SNMMCH superintendent Dr Anil Kumar said that after getting information about the strike, he directed the outsourcing company to ensure proper cleaning of the hospital and its ward as per agreement. “Hospital management has nothing to with this strike as employees belong to a private agency. However, the issue is minor and agitating employees are expected to resume work soon,” he added.

The agitating employees alleged that the management had increased their salary payment two months ago, but the local management paid the old salary. “The management even did not pay Dussehra and Diwali bonuses to us. Despite repeated reminders, the management did not pay an increased salary, so we decided to go on indefinite strike”, said an agitator.

The local manager of the outsourcing company, Tarun Kumar, said the issue had been solved, and employees would start working soon.
