Kolkata, Feb 16: In the course of its investigation into purported anomalies in the recruitment process in the state’s primary schools, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted raids at the residences and workplace of a builder who is believed to be close to former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, an official stated.
Raids at builder’s office and three flats
The officer stated that the businessman’s office and three flats in Naktala, a southern area of Kolkata, were searched by ED teams accompanied by central forces. One of the flats is located just across from Chatterjee’s house.
“The builder has played a significant role in the scam. It seems that the person has helped the arrested minister in investing the money garnered from the scam in different projects,” the ED officer stated.
In relation to the purported scam, the builder had already been questioned twice by the ED.
“Several documents and bank details seized from the possession of the person have proved that Chatterjee has taken his help to invest money gained from the primary school scam,” the official further stated.
ED has arrested Partha Chatterjee last year
The ED had arrested Chatterjee over alleged anomalies in recruitment in government-aided schools.
Partha Chatterjee was apprehended subsequent to the discovery of Rs 21 crore in cash and jewelry exceeding Rs 1 crore in worth at the Kolkata residence of Arpita Mukherjee, a close associate of Partha Chatterjee.
