Ranchi, April 2: In a major action, the Election Commission today removed Deoghar SP Ajit Peter Dungdung and other DMs and SPs in the states of Bihar, Odisha, Assam, and Andhra Pradesh.
EC seeks panel for new SP
According to a press release issued by the EC, the order to remove the Deoghar SP has been sent to the government. A panel has been sought from the state government for the new SP.
Notably, one Shivdutt Sharma, who has been absconding in three cases, had lodged an FIR against MP Nishikant Dubey at Jasidih police station on March 28. The complaint had reached the Election Commission regarding how an absconding accused could reach the police station and lodge an FIR.
Many complaints against Dungdung
The Deoghar SP faces many other charges, including sending a disabled person to jail. Given these complaints, the Election Commission took strict action and removed Deoghar SP from the post.
The release said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued transfer orders for District Magistrates (DM), Superintendents of Police (SP), and DIG/IG rank officers in five states: Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
“The decision was taken as part of the regular review by the Commission during a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.

Under the directive, all the transferred officials have been asked to hand over the charge to their immediate junior officer. These officers will be assigned election duty once the General Elections 2024 is completed. The respective state governments have been directed to send a panel of names of IAS and IPS officers to the Commission.
