Bengaluru, April 17: R Akhanda Srinivas Murthy, a former Pulakeshinagar Congress MLA, joined the BJP on Wednesday.

After not being granted a ticket to run in the Assembly elections last year, he had resigned from the Congress.

Murthy then entered the contest with a BSP ticket, but he was defeated.

BJP stalwart and former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, along with Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, alongside other prominent leaders welcomed him into the party ranks.

Karandlaje is running for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Pulakeshinagar Assembly constituency, which is part of the Bangalore North Lok Sabha segment.

On this occasion, Yediyurappa remarked, “Srinivas Murthy joining BJP before the elections has given the party a big strength.”

“Shobha Karandlaje winning with a margin of 2.5 lakh to three lakh votes is certain,” he added.
