Ayodhya, Dec 15: Former Member of Parliament Dr Ramvilas Vedanti, a prominent face of the Ram temple movement and a leader known for shaping assertive Hindutva politics, passed away on Monday morning.
He was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa after his health deteriorated suddenly, where he breathed his last.
Dr Vedanti had been admitted to the hospital on the evening of December 13 following complaints of high blood pressure.

Saints associated with the Ram temple movement, social organisations and local residents in Ayodhya expressed deep grief over his demise.
According to reports, his mortal remains will reach Ayodhya later in the evening, and the last rites will be performed on Tuesday. Notably, Dr Vedanti was among the leaders named in connection with the Babri demolition case.
Born on October 7, 1958, in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, Dr Ramvilas Vedanti embraced ascetic life at the age of 12, leaving his home and settling in Ayodhya.
He became a disciple of Mahant Abhiram Das of Hanumangarhi and was widely regarded as a scholar of Sanskrit. He lived at Hindu Dham located on the banks of the Saryu river.

After years of association with the Ram temple movement, he entered active politics. The BJP first fielded him as its candidate from the Machhlishahr constituency in 1996. He went on to win the Lok Sabha election and served as a Member of Parliament twice, in 1996 and again in 1998.
