New Delhi, Dec 17: To expand the reach of hockey, Hockey India has announced that for the upcoming Hero Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25, matches in Ranchi and Rourkela will have free entry for spectators. There will be no charge for tickets.
In a bold move to strengthen its bond with passionate sports fans, Hockey India has offered free entry to the stadium, foregoing revenue from ticket sales.

This year’s Hero Hockey India League will feature eight men’s teams and four women’s teams. The men’s league will begin on December 28 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, with the grand finale scheduled for February 1, 2025. Meanwhile, the women’s league will start on January 12, 2025, at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium in Ranchi, with the final set for January 26.
Dr. Dilip Tirkey, the Chairperson of the HIL Governing Committee, expressed his excitement saying that offering free tickets would make live hockey accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial background. The aim is to bring the sport closer to the fans and inspire both current and future generations of players and supporters. He also mentioned that Ranchi and Rourkela, both with strong hockey traditions, are expected to fill the stadiums with vibrant energy and passion.
