New Delhi, August 16: A murder committed in Saudi Arabia in 1999 has caught up with the accused after 26 years. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Mohammad Dilshad, wanted for killing a man in Riyadh while working as a heavy motor mechanic and security guard.

He was apprehended at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on August 11, when he arrived from Madinah using a passport obtained under a false identity. On August 14, he was remanded to judicial custody.

Dilshad, now about 52, fled to India immediately after the murder and managed to stay beyond the reach of law for over two decades. The CBI registered a case in April 2022 at the request of Saudi authorities.

Investigators found that despite an initial Look Out Circular, Dilshad evaded capture by travelling across Gulf countries—including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar—using fraudulent identities. A new passport eventually exposed his movements, leading to a second LOC and his eventual arrest.

A native of Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, Dilshad had been employed in Madinah in recent years. The CBI said further investigation in the case is ongoing.
