Ranchi, Jan 9: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has approved the proposal to implement the State Employee Health Insurance Scheme. This scheme will be rolled out soon after it is approved by the Council of Ministers (Cabinet).
The scheme aims to provide health insurance benefits to working and retired state employees and officials, as outlined in Resolution No. 185(13) dated 31.07.2023, issued by the Department of Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare, Jharkhand, Ranchi. Previously, due to certain errors, state employees were unable to benefit from the scheme. However, the Health Department has now fully resolved these issues, and the scheme will soon be implemented across Jharkhand.

Who Will Benefit?
The following groups will be eligible for health insurance under the scheme:
- Current Members of the State Legislative Assembly.
- State Government Employees and Retired Employees: Includes their dependent family members, such as:
- Husband or wife.
- Son (including legally adopted son, up to 25 years of age, if unemployed).
- Daughter (unmarried, widowed, or deserted).
- Minor brother and unmarried sister.
- Dependent parents (receiving a pension of less than Rs. 9,000 per month, including dearness relief).
- Disabled dependents of employees or retirees.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive health insurance coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh per year. Disabled dependents of employees and retired employees will be entitled to lifelong health insurance.
Coverage for Serious Illnesses
For critical illnesses, the scheme offers health insurance coverage of up to Rs. 10 lakh per year.
Under the State Employee Health Insurance Scheme, beneficiaries and their dependents will be treated as a family unit. Each family will be covered for up to Rs. 5 lakh annually. In cases of identified critical illnesses, treatment expenses may be covered up to an additional Rs. 5 lakh. This will bring the total maximum coverage to Rs. 10 lakh per family per year.
The additional costs for critical illnesses will be covered by a Corporate Buffer Fund of Rs. 50 crore maintained under the scheme. Additionally, if the medical expenses of any insured worker exceed the covered amount, the Jharkhand State Arogya Society will maintain a Corpus Fund to cover the extra expenses. Payments for such cases will be made from this fund.
