Jamshedpur, March 13: The sudden spurt in maximum temperature prompted the Met department to issue a heat wave alert in Jharkhand for the next 72 hours.
IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a heat wave alert in isolated places over south-eastern parts of the state along with the Garhwa and Palamu districts in the next two days.
According to the forecast, heatwave condition is also expected to prevail in the Northwest and parts of the state around Sunday, March 16.
A heat wave condition is declared when the day temperature shoots up 5 degrees above the normal.
The maximum temperature in Jamshedpur and Daltonganj has touched 39 degrees Celsius, five to six notches above the normal.
In Bokaro the day temperature has touched the 38 degrees Celsius mark, 5.6 notches above normal.
The maximum temperature has reached 37 degrees Celsius in Godda, Pakur and several other places.
Weathermen said Loo, hot and dry wind which blows in the plains during this time of the season might also prevail at a few isolated places in the southern Jharkhand after the next 24 hours.
