PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, June 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over various parts of the state over the next six days.

The prevailing weather is linked to active monsoon conditions and shifting synoptic systems.

Forecast Highlights (June 21–26)

June 21: Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over northwestern and northeastern districts of Jharkhand. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected across the state.

June 22–23: Thunderstorm/lightning may occur at isolated places across Jharkhand.

June 24: Heavy rain is likely in the northeastern districts, with thunderstorms likely throughout the state.

June 25: Isolated heavy rainfall over southern and central districts is expected.

June 26: Rainfall activity may continue over some parts of the state.

Monsoon Progress

The southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh; and many parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and some parts of West Uttar Pradesh and Ladakh.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) was passing through Jaipur, Agra, Rampur, Dehradun, Shimla, Manali, and extends to 33.5°N/79.0°E.

Synoptic Features

A well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Jharkhand and adjoining regions has weakened into a low-pressure area and currently lies over south Bihar and surrounding areas.

An upper air cyclonic circulation, extending up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level, is associated with this system and is expected to weaken further while moving slowly northwestward.

An east-west trough line was running from northwest Rajasthan to Meghalaya, passing through the cyclonic systems over northeast Rajasthan, south Uttar Pradesh, and Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9–1.5 Km above the sea level.
