Jamshedpur, August 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand as a low-pressure area continues to persist over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast.
The system, along with its associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level and tilting southwestward, is expected to move slowly west-northwestwards across Odisha.
As a result, Jharkhand is likely to witness spells of thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall over the next few days.

Forecast Highlights
August 29: Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph) likely at isolated places across the state, except the north-western region. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations in the south-eastern and north-eastern parts.
August 30: Thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds may occur at several isolated places. Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of central Jharkhand.
August 31: Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places across the state.
The monsoon trough currently stretches from Bikaner through Banasthali, Damoh, and Pendra Road to the well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, further extending southeastward to east-central Bay of Bengal.
Met officials have advised residents, particularly in vulnerable areas, to remain cautious of lightning strikes, waterlogging, and wind-related damage in the coming days.
